He waved off the comment and reached over to give the young man's shoulder a squeeze of appreciation. It was light, gentle, and there was nothing sexual or expectant. He just wanted to tell him how nice it was to be treated kindly.
He made sure his cane was settled before he looked around and considered if he wanted anything. Some water, perhaps?
He tilted his head thoughtfully towards the water pitcher. It was seldom used but the water from it was as sweet as anything else drank by the gods.
Ganymede nodded and skittered over to get water for him, and returned with it quickly. Zeus was just getting things started then, and Ganymede hesitated a moment, and then made the decision to sit at Hephaestus' feet rather than return to the throne. It was warmer there anyway.
He looked down at the young man at his feet and frowned just a little before glancing over at Zeus to see his reaction. Father, of course, was a bit frowny but he didn't seem to be a thundering mess. He looked down again and put his hand on the boy's shoulder gently, rubbing it sweetly for a moment before nodding towards his father.
But, Ganymede didn't go. He tucked in closer at the petting, and put his head on Hephaestus' knee. Part of him knew he was being monumentally stupid, but he was so tired of it all. Tired of Zeus, tired of Olympus, and tired of being cold.
He leaned down and his voice was a strange thing, holding the gentle flicker of candlelight and the warmth of a forge fire, slightly too warm to be a hearth, driving instead of settling.
"You could be stuck with me, banished from this place, if you are not careful."

He took Hepheastus' arm, which got a couple of gasps and teeters, and lead him over to a seat by the hearth.
"It's much nicer over here, anyway."
He made sure the cushions were in place, and took Hephaestus' cane for him as he sat.
"Can I get anything for you?"
A nymph laughed and said,
"You can get him a mask!"
And Ganymede utterly ignored her. He was really beginning to hate this place.
